Top tips for writing good advertising features

We cover advertising features on our copywriting course. They’re important, especially with a burgeoning magazine market.

Most magazines and newspapers use them, and it’s important they are well written.

They are presented to look similar to the publication’s editorial content. So it’s important they follow the editorial writing style, and are not out of sync with the rest of the publication.

We tell our distance learning copywriting course students to use a fluent and precise writing style, make every word count, and check for accuracy.

The skill is to mask the feature, so it doesn’t sound like a blatant plug. Using case studies and quotes from individuals is more effective than just telling readers ‘We are wonderful.’
