Never take short cuts with work experience applications

Proofreading course students don’t tend to think about doing work experience.

That’s probably because they have full-time jobs … though so do our NCTJ journalism course students, and they seem to manage it!

One student asked me how to structure her CV for work experience. She was surprised when I said: ‘No differently than for a job application.’

To me, applying for work experience is no different from applying for a job. The CV has the same aim: to make sure the boss notices you.

A relevant, glittering CV will help your career prospects, as many employers use work experience to scout for talent.
