Don’t give bullets the bullet just because you don’t like them

I blog about style issues more than anything else. That’s because they crop up so often when we’re training writers, proofreaders, journalists and editors.

Someone on a copywriting course told me they didn’t use bullet points because they didn’t like them!
My response was: ‘So what?’ Personal preference doesn’t play any part in copywriting … or any other kind of writing.

The writer’s role is to make the copy relevant, and easy for the visitor to read. So bullet points, and numbered lists, play an important part.

Whether you love them or hate them, you should use them unless the client states otherwise.
